Haiti

Haiti, the poorest country in America, is suffering from natural disasters, a political crisis and gang violence.

According to the Human Development Report 2021/2022, eleven million people live in Haiti. The island nation has not yet recovered from the consequences of the severe earthquake in 2010 and the renewed quakes in 2021. Poverty, a high illiteracy rate and a deficient health care system determine the daily lives of many of the largely Christian Haitians. In addition, the development of agriculture is hindered by deforestation and erosion.
