Bolivia

The state is considered one of the poorest countries in Latin America.

According to the Human Development Report 2021/2022, Bolivia has a population of about ten million. Christianity is predominant, with a strong influence from natural religions. Many Bolivians live in poverty. Nevertheless, there is a high literacy rate. The South American country combines a high mountain climate, subtropical and tropical climate, and dry zones.

Feeding the poor in the mountain villages

Catholic Sister Verena Birnbacher of the Ayopaya Mission Circle is the director of a social center. She takes in people who recieve no state aid and live in bitter need. Here they get a monthly package of food such as rice, bread or oil, as well as a small amount of money.
