The situation in Dahuk is inadequate
.
The Dahuk governorate is located in the autonomous region of Kurdistan in northernmost Iraq. There, the spread of Covid-19 is affecting the lives of the population: Curfews and contact restrictions mean that people cannot provide food for themselves due to lack of financial resources. In addition, they cannot adequately protect themselves from Covid-19 infection due to lack of mouth and nose protection gear, soaps and disinfectants.
Emergency relief kits for 240 families
As part of the project, 240 families in the Dahuk district are to receive emergency aid packages. This will enable them to provide themselves with enough food for one month and comply with the necessary hygiene measures to fight Covid-19.
In July, 120 needy families received an emergency aid package. The second distribution will follow in December. Already, Younan Lazar Markhail, president of our local partner Assyrian Aid Society - Iraq (AAS-I), expresses his deepest gratitude to all donors for their commitment and solidarity. A big thank you goes to the Old Catholic Parish of St. Martin in Dortmund and Hagen, which supported the project with a fundraising campaign under the leadership of Father Geßmann:
